You don’t have to have a timetable or curriculum.
You do have to be enthusiastic about your child.
You do believe that learning, living and growing are one.
You have the choice.
This site hopes to encourage you to think about your children as individuals, not numbers on a payroll or register, and then take action!
HE’ers have their own individual style, from structured to entirely child-led, but all share the common belief that when their child’s learning is concerned; the child is a willing and active “participant” rather than a passive receptor of information.
Often, as the parents are facilitating the learning process, they too discover more than they knew!
“What about socialisation?”
Yes it is a problem, due to the artificial grouping of classes by age, school children tend to only associate socially with children of a similar age for much of their day and thus miss out on a
large amount of real-world experience.
On the other hand HE children are continually exposed to and interact with people of all ages and abilities in real situations; leading to confident, outgoing people.
Some people believe that HE children are kept away from other children and locked indoors all day by over-protective or anti-social parents. They might also believe that the moon is made of green cheese and that pigs really can fly....
